Is it me or is gender inequity in the workpace getting worse?

I work for a huge company, formerly known for the high value it placed on employees and diversity in the workplace. The male CEO has 10 Sr VPs who report to him – 9 are men. And 70% of the ~120 VPs who report to these SR VPs are men. And it doesn’t improve even at lower levels of management. Is this happening everywhere or is this the result of poor leadership from a CEO who will get a pension of $11K per DAY while the the rest of us widgets have had their pension eliminated? Or is it just that the working conditions become such that one cannot succeed in this biz w/out a wife?

I really struggle with arguments like this, here’s why:
1.) Just because 9 out of the 10 emplyees are male, does not mean the CEO is sexist.
2.) The argument lacks evidence of refusing to hire women
3.) What exactly is the nature of the work, because there are some jobs/careers that just attract one gender over the other.
4.) Women, often times choose family over careers…which isn’t always the case, but sometimes it happens.
5.) You also lumped other issues into the argument: i.e. pensions of CEOs vs. pensions of “widgets” and marriage & business.

Is it possible that they have staffed with the best people available?
Our company president was asked a nearly identical question. His response was “if more women were educated in technical fields, we would hire more female management.”
Competetive companies can’t simply give women
    management jobs.

    i don’t understand your question.

but if more women applied for these jobs, they’d probably get them.

men like a bit of skirt around the office to distract them from work.

I can’t speak to your companies policies but I know in my line of work it is a problem in the reverse of what your talking about. We are forced to except women on the job sites and are unable to do anything about it…even if they are not the best qualified for the job. Foreman’s are forced to keep them and lay off men that can do the job just to keep their jobs. How does that help anyone? Women that are qualified are treated worse because of those that take advantage to these artificial conditions and unfair business practices! Men that have earned their positions are kicked off jobs in order to maintain gender& racial quotas; this doesn’t further any of us or our industry! I agree with what the first person said as well.

At the bottom-or first tier management.Females have the upper-hand.After that, males have the upper hand…

I agree with cr-ben, having been a white male employed in entry level positions in a number of corporations, you are a sitting duck around women and minorities. They don’t want equality- they want revenge.
The upper levels are still dominated by white men-but that is more related to the fact that whoever has the gold makes the rules.
